Set in peaceful countryside between Kendal and Kirkby Lonsdale, Barkinbeck Cottage  commands panoramic views to the coast, the Pennines and Lakeland fells, and is an ideal base from which to explore the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.

Kirkby Lonsdale, a friendly market town five miles away and Kendal, a larger commercial centre and 'Gateway to the Lakes' seven miles away, together provide shops, pubs, restaurants, banks, hospital, library, museums, art gallery and leisure centre, with historic houses and gardens within a 10 minute drive.

Kendal was the largest town in the County of Westmorland, before it became part of Cumbria. It was a one of the country's main manufacturing towns from the 14th Century until the 19th Century, with many mills on the River Kent. The layout of the town is characterised by the narrow yards and lanes branching from the main street. Kendal is an attractive, historical town, still the centre of a lot of local industry. It is less than a mile from the National Park boundary and is handy for those wishing to explore the North Yorkshire National Park. Take a tour of the amenities page
